Blood spot testing

Who Should Take the Heart Health Test

  • Individuals who have been diagnosed with heart disease
  • Those who are diabetic
  • Adults on medication for elevated cholesterol or diabetes
  • Individuals with high blood pressure
  • Those at risk for diabetes or heart disease
  • Individuals diagnosed with metabolic syndrome

Biomarkers Measured

To help assess cardiometabolic health, various lipids, proteins, lipoproteins, and hormones are measured.

Insulin

Insulin helps facilitate glucose transport to the cells.  Insulin resistence can occur, when glucose cannot easily enter cells.  This can place individuals at a higher risk for heart related conditions.

Hs-(CRP)

High Sensitivity C-Reactive Protein is found in the blood in cases of inflammation, infection, heart attack, and trauma to the body.  Hs-(CRP) has been linked to atherosclerosis, a narrowing of blood vessels that causes cardiovascular disease.

HBA1c

Hemoglobin A1c measures blood glucose that is attached to red blood cells known as hemoglobin.  Levels are measured over a three-month period and averaged.  High levels of HBA1c are associated with diabetes and heart disease.

TC

Total cholesterol tests for all cholesterol found in the blood including both LDL (low-density cholesterol) and HDL (high-density cholesterol).  Cholesterol is necessary for all cells in the body and is a waxy, fat-like substance.

HDL

HDL (high-density lipoprotein) is considered “good” cholesterol.

LDL

LDL (low-density lipoprotein) is referred to as “bad” cholesterol

TG

Triglycerides

The triglyceride level test helps measure the amount of triglycerides in your blood. Triglycerides are a type of fat, or lipid, found in the blood. The results of this test help your doctor determine your risk of developing heart disease. Another name for this test is a triacylglycerol test.

VLDL

Very-low-density lipoprotein is made by the liver where it is then released into the bloodstream.  VLDL transports triglycerides to the tissues.

  • Pressure or discomfort in the chest
  • Nausea
  • Dizziness
  • Pain that radiates through the arm
  • Jaw pain
  • Extreme fatigue
  • Swelling in the legs/feet
  • Irregular heartbeat
  • Diabetes
  • Fatty liver
  • Elevated blood pressure
  • Facial numbness or numb arms or legs
  • Extreme weakness
  • Confusion
  • Problems with vision
  • Elevated cholesterol or triglyceride levels

Cardiometabolic Health FYI

Cardiometabolic syndrome is a cluster of symptoms or conditions that put the body at risk for heart disease, stroke, diabetes, or heart attack.  Fats known as lipids found in the blood can cause arterial blockage to the heart and brain.  Elevated glucose levels can contribute to high blood pressure, liver inflammation and the weakening of nerves and blood vessels.  While not every individual will have all risk factors, even one of these can contribute to a serious heart health issue.

What the test reveals

Visual representation of specific biomarker results over time, together with detailed descriptions for easy understanding of health-related results.

Analysis and Insight

Detailed analysis of test results helps identify key areas of impact on health.  Important insights offer information and opportunities to support healthy changes.

Personalized Action Plan

Get diet, activity progress, and tracking of supplement use with simple access to your personal dashboard along with recommendations based on your specific test results.

Precaution

This at-home heart health test kit was designed to assess hormone levels associated with cardiometabolic health. Testing is designed for informational purposes and as a tool to support further discussion with your physician or other healthcare practitioners.  You should always consult your doctor for any specific health questions, diagnosis or medical treatment.
